Geometric Landscape

Oil on Board, 122 x 40 cms, 48 x 15.75 inches

Even though as British artist I am known for my large artworks of flowers based in Sussex.  I do get absorbed and inspired when I travel.  This large landscape oil painting is inspired by the large flat plains of Alberta Canada.  Being British, I am used to a small enclosed landscape around me whereas the landscape in Canada stretches as far as the eye can see.

"Geometric Landscape", is exploring the forms found in the landscape.  Whilst travelling from Calgary to the Rocky Mountains we drove past the Burmis Tree, a dead tree that had a plaque on a rocky outcrop.  Even though this painting is inspired by the Burmis Tree it is still a part of my landscape series.  The majority of my landscape paintings part of this series is painted from my imagination and my memory.  The landscape is not as geometric as I have made it, I have deliberately made the tree mirror the mountains with geometric lines and shapes and the colours celebrate the diverse palette that the landscape gives us across the day with the varying light.

I have been fascinated by geometry and symmetry within nature and natural forms for years, so this painting is a culmination of many years of study as well as the actual landscape that initially inspired it.
